Need copywriting done for your website, e-zine, newsletter, brochure or other written piece?  Donna Kozik is a professional copywriter who can make your words work for you to sell, sell, sell your product or service.

What’s a copywriter?

A copywriter comes up with the words for your advertising or marketing.

Yeah, that might not sound too exciting, but it is! I’ve been writing words professionally for 15 years, and I find it very exciting!

I write the words that:

  • showcase your expertise

  • demonstrate your value and, most importantly,

  • sell, sell, sell your product!

Are the words really that important?

You bet they are!

Did you know readers look at words first and graphics second on the Web? It’s true!

But no matter where your words appear – on the Web or in a brochure, news release or sales letter, I make them work for you. The written words are what speak for you when you’re not there to speak for yourself. That’s quite a task – you want them to represent you and your business well.

Been writing your own copy? Nothing wrong with that. After all, you know your business better than anybody. But when it’s time to bring in a professional, I’m the one to make your words do more for you and your product or service.

My writing makes your prospects jump to take action, whether it’s to fill out a request for more information, give you a call or get right to it and buy your product.

Is it time to get reporters to sit up and take notice? In promoting my own products and business, I’ve gotten my own name in articles in Woman’s Day magazine and hundreds of newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun and many others.

My marketing expertise has been quoted in several books and publications, including those by well-known copywriter Bob Bly and the revered online marketing resource MarketingProfs.

What can you do for me?

In general, whenever words come into play, that’s when you want to think of me.

Specifically, I write and edit:

Web copy

Brochures

Articles

Company profiles

Sales letters

Newsletters

Whitepapers

E-zines

News releases

. . . and more!

My copy’s done (or just about). What should I do now?

If your copy’s written, that’s more than half the battle. But there’s still work to be done. Does it say exactly what you want it to say – and the way you want to say it? Does it speak to your audience? Is it too long? Too short? Is the grammar perfect? Are there any typos?

Give it a professional polish! Let me find those little mistakes that won’t look so little once they’re in print or on screen for the world to see.

I am the original “fresh eye.” I’ll carefully read your copy frontward and backward to make sure it says what you need it to say – and is error free.

(Plus, because speed is the name of the game when you get to this stage, I turn most pieces around in 24 hours or less!)

Offering Editing and Proofreading Excellence

“Working with Donna over the last year has been a true pleasure. She is able to zero-in on mistakes in type, format and word usage and her editing skills are excellent. I have come to depend upon her as part of my team.”

Brenda Dobbs
Principal
Dobbs & Co. Ad Agency

Why do you also call yourself a consultant?

Sometimes what you need is to bounce ideas off someone in the field. I’ve learned a great deal from doing copywriting for all types of large and small businesses. I’d love to listen and give you some advice.

Besides being a wordsmith, I also have an MBA, so I can "talk the language of business." After a few initial questions, I can quickly get a grasp of you, your work and what your ultimate goals are.

And how good am I at giving advice? Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll probably say, “Very!”  : ) Okay, so I always have an opinion. But I give it after getting a thorough understanding of your problem and studying it from all angles. I listen to you first and give my thoughts second.

But, if you hire me, be ready to get an earful of suggestions about your marketing and advertising copy. I want to help you succeed!

Offering Experience in Communications and Business

“When I needed a writer and editor who could generate content for a manual for small business owners, I thought of Donna. She has an MBA and experience and interest in fitness. Donna created an outline of topic points for marketing, sales, personnel and overall business management, wrote a lot of copy and edited a lot more. Cheerful, patient, on time --  Donna brought a lot to the table.”

What’s your background?

I’ve always had a passion for writing – I knew it was what I would be doing since I was seven and impressed my mom with my first book. (Eight pages of my life story to that point, complete with illustrations and a Swingline stapler binding.)

I studied Communications and Literature at Grove City College in Pennsylvania and then went to work as a newspaper editor in my hometown of Union City, Pa. Later, I earned an MBA (master of business administration) degree with a concentration in Marketing from Gannon University in Erie, Pa., where I also worked as a writer and editor for a Fortune 1000 insurance company.

In 2001, I gave up the snow zone and moved to sunny San Diego. My client list grew and grew to include:

San Diego Magazine

San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce

Sharp HealthCare

IKON Business Solutions

3E Company

MedEdCom

. . . and many others.

Plus, the people at Erie Insurance, my former Pennsylvania employer, found me so valuable they have kept me on as a freelance writer for more than three years! (Even though we’re three time zones apart!)

A Professional Through and Through

“Her research is thorough and her copy well-crafted and on-time. Donna is a complete professional, from assignment to final edit.”

There seem to be a lot of copywriters out there, why should I hire you?

Good question! The answer is because I offer so much value as an “on call” marketing and communications staff member to your organization! I’m a wordsmith, and I’m a marketer. I’m a communications professional, and I’m a business owner – just like yourself!

Most of all, I have the expertise to make the words do the work for you. My writing calls your prospects into action, whether it’s to buy a product, fill out a request for more information or give you a call. And how important is that? Extremely! That’s why you want to be working with a professional.

Let’s talk a little turkey. How much do you charge?

First thing, keep in mind that with a professional copywriter, you’re not spending money -- you’re creating value!  Value personified with a voice to speak for you on the Web and in written collateral.

I work with clients either per hour, per project or on retainer – whichever makes the most sense for both of us. To give you an idea of where prices start, look at my rate sheet.

Works Well With Others

“As a former coworker, Donna was the perfect sounding board for every piece I wrote.  Whether it was for online or print publication, Donna had a unique talent for quickly assuming my target audience and providing thoughtful feedback from the perspective of my intended reader.

“Although Donna and I maintain a personal friendship, I continue to seek her professional opinion -- not in an effort to receive a superficial slap on the back from a good pal, but to hear the constructive criticism that will make me a better writer and marketer.

“There is no one else whose professional opinion I value more.  Donna is a genuine person with a sincere dedication to her work.”

Tara Maras
(former) Director of Marketing
United Way of Southern Nevada

Okay, I’d like to learn more. What should I do?

Let’s talk! Drop me an e-mail or give me a break from my keyboard by calling 619-297-1749. (Remember, I’m in California, but I’m usually at my desk at 7 a.m. “my time.”) If you get my voicemail, I’m most likely on the line with another client. Leave me a message, and I’ll return your call promptly.
